Columbus Crew Halts Inter Miami’s Leagues Cup Title Defense

The Columbus Crew staged a dramatic comeback to end Inter Miami CF's Leagues Cup title defense on Tuesday night at Lower.com Field. Trailing by two goals, the Crew rallied to secure a 3-2 victory, thanks to goals from Christian Ramírez and a brace by Diego Rossi. This win propels the Crew into the quarterfinals.

Inter Miami's early dominance saw Matías Rojas and Diego Gómez score to put them ahead. Rojas headed in an early goal, and Gómez added a spectacular strike from a Luis Suárez assist. Despite the absence of superstar Lionel Messi, who has been sidelined with an ankle injury since Argentina's Copa América final, Miami looked poised for a quarterfinal berth.

However, the Crew, led by coach Wilfried Nancy and strong at home, fought back fiercely. Rossi and Ramírez scored quickly to level the match, and Rossi's final goal from a challenging angle secured the win.

The Crew will now face New York City FC in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Inter Miami, which won the inaugural Leagues Cup last year, will have a break before resuming MLS action against FC Cincinnati on August 24.

Despite the defeat, Miami’s coach Gerardo Martino remains positive, emphasizing the team’s competitive spirit and the importance of continuing to pursue domestic titles.
